Wild symbol
What is Wild symbol?
A Wild symbol acts as a joker in slot machines: it substitutes for any regular symbol to complete or improve a winning combination. Wilds generally cannot replace Scatter symbols or special bonus triggers. Depending on the game, Wilds may be sticky, expanding, or carry a multiplier that boosts the value of the combinations they help complete.
The basic Wild
In its simplest form, a Wild lands on a reel and substitutes for adjacent ordinary symbols to form the best possible combination, much like a wildcard in a card game. The symbols it cannot replace are always listed in the game’s paytable.
Common variants
Several Wild types exist. An expanding Wild stretches to cover an entire reel. A sticky Wild stays in place for multiple spins. A multiplier Wild applies a factor - often x2 or x3 - to the payout of the combination it helps complete. Some games combine multiple effects in a single Wild symbol.
Why Wilds matter
The presence and behavior of Wilds directly shape the perceived volatility of a game. A slot with frequent but plain Wilds delivers a different experience from one featuring rare but high-powered multiplier Wilds.
