What is Progressive jackpot?
A progressive jackpot is a prize that grows continuously, fed by a fraction of every bet placed on the game or across a network of linked games. It can reach very large sums before being won, at which point it resets to a predefined seed amount. Triggering the jackpot is either random or conditional depending on the game's rules.
Standalone vs. network jackpots
A standalone (local) jackpot is funded only by bets placed on a single machine or game. A wide-area network jackpot pools contributions from many casinos and players, allowing the prize to grow much larger, but with a correspondingly very low individual probability of winning it.
Effect on RTP
The fraction of each bet directed to the jackpot pool is subtracted from the base game’s RTP. The published RTP sometimes includes the theoretical jackpot contribution, which can make it appear more favorable. It is worth distinguishing the base-game RTP from the total RTP that includes the jackpot component.
Trigger conditions
Some jackpots trigger completely at random, independent of the spin result. Others require a specific symbol combination on the reels or access to a dedicated bonus mini-game. The exact conditions are described in each game’s paytable.
