What is Expanding Wild?
An expanding Wild is a Wild symbol that stretches to cover all positions on its reel from top to bottom when it lands. Once expanded, it acts as a standard Wild on every row, significantly increasing the chance of completing winning combinations across multiple paylines or directions at once. The expansion is usually shown through a distinct animation before wins are evaluated.
How it works
When an expanding Wild appears on a reel, it replaces all symbols in that column. The full-height Wild then substitutes for regular symbols on every row, potentially triggering several winning combinations simultaneously. Most games display an expansion animation before the win count is calculated.
Expansion conditions
Some expanding Wilds only stretch when doing so contributes to at least one win. Others always expand on any appearance regardless of the surrounding symbols. The game’s paytable or help section specifies which rule applies.
